GI troubles-new enzymes

Well I just stopped my pancrease mt16's (as others have). Just made the switch to Creon 24's.
Since starting them I've been so constipated and distended. I hardly want to eat bc I know by 6 pm I'll be so bloated and uncomfortable.
I called the doc and am waiting for a reply. Wondering if I need a switch, or if it takes some time to adjust to new enzymes. I've been on pancrease for 27 years!
btw this all coincides with my daughter having a severe stomach virus, so I'm wondering if I have a touch of it-though my symptoms are nothing like hers.
I had a Ct of abdomen last week-showed gallstones, sludge and severe constipation. I always have some constipation but this was way more.
So we'll see where they go from here. (anyone have a Ct with contrast-It was horrible. that is BAD stuff...I've had almost every procedure out there. this was awful.)
Any tips on how you handle the constipation? I've tried colace..it doesn't do anything for me. Softens it, but I feel like I need a good cleanout. So gross.

Have you tried miralax or milk of magnesia? Both of those work to draw water from the large intestine to get things moving along again. We've used milk of mag in the past with DS.

As for your gall bladder, I can't remember... Are you on actigall/ursodiol?

As for enzymes I've HEARD that Pancreaze will be available by July 31st. Apparently really no change from Pancrease MTs, just packaging and name.

never been on any gall meds-never had problems with it. i still haven't had any gall pain-they just found the stones on a routine "check" of my abdomen (i do a chest scan every year)

DS was put on actigall/ursodiol when he was a baby because he was on TPN in the NICU and had elevated liver enzyme levels. The added benefit is that it can help keep the gallbladder happy, deal with the sludge issue.

His doctor mentioned that at some point, when he's older (teens/20s) he'll most likely have an ultrasound done on his gallbladder due to potential issues with it.

Christian - if you don't have any symptoms of gall bladder problems then you are fine for now in that department. Since you DO have stones, you have an increased risk of having problems and needing it out in the future but it isn't a guarantee.

I just went through my own gall bladder thing a little over a week ago. I too was told several years ago on during a routine ultrasound that I had gall stones. Never appeared to have a problem though. I have had dull stomach pain (along with bloating and the feeling of fullness) for many years off and on but was told it was other stuff like reflux, an ulcer, or gastroparesis. I even had an upper endoscopy to see if I had an ulcer (I didn't). But 2 weeks ago I started having HORRIBLE cramping pain at night so to make a very long story short, I ended up with a blocked common bile duct (blocked by stones) and 2 procedures - 1 to remove the stone and put a stent in the duct and a few hours later I had my gall bladder removed. I was SO determined not to have my gall bladder out but in the end I got extremely sick (liver enzymes shot through the roof) and it was basically an emergency situation and there was no other option. And now we believe that my on again off again stomach stuff was my gall bladder all along. I really hope so anyway.

I hope you can resolve your tummy situation. Try miralax. you can get it over the counter now. Oh and taking ursiodiol or actigall can dissolve stones but it isn't a guarantee though it may help you from forming more. gall stones are SO tricky.

IMO, too it sounds like what DS went thru when he was smaller and needed a good clean out. His tummy would get so distended toward the end of the day and his eating would decrease. And he'd continue stooling, but would still be "backed up", so we'd treat him with milk of magnesia for a few days and get things cleared out and moving again.

Hopefully, too if need be, you can switch back to Pancreaze in a couple weeks.

Why the switch from Pancrease MT16?

My girls tried other enzymes back in 98 when we were stationed in Germany and we couldn't get Pancrease MT16. One tolerated the switch the other absolutely did not. We ended up having my mom pick up the Pancrease at the pharmacy and mailing it to us. Before we went to that last step we tried the mail order pharmacy but on the second refill they substituted generic and we had such a hard time getting that straightened out that we gave up.

My girls have been on the same enzymes forever, just like you. Creon worked for one but not the other. For us it was easier to keep them on the same one when we got back to the states. She switched back just fine.

So why the switch?
