Handy remedy for more-than-usual-irritating CF cough

I was sitting at my desk at work today next to a row of colleagues. At first it was just a trickle in the throat...then cough-cough...cough-cough-cough! You know the one. The more you suppress it, the more it comes. Years ago I had a building project happening at my house - one of the construction workers heard me cough through the window and told me to drink a cup of hot salty water. I live in Africa so I did it to humour him and also I was kinda desperate so I hoped it is some sort of trusted African folk cure. And it worked! After a few sips the urge to cough subsided to a more normal level. I've been using it a few times a year since then. No idea why, but it has to be hot salty water e.g. hot tea doesn't have the same effect.

1 cup hot water + stir in 1/2 teaspoon of salt so it tastes just a bit more salty than saline. It tastes quite good to me (#CF). Sip.

Let me know if this works for anyone else or it's just me
