Heart Palpitations

I am wondering if anyone here has a something called "PVC" or premature hearbeat. I have been having this fluttering feeling and feel the need to take a deep breath. I went to the ER and they hooked me up to a heart monitor and did an ECG. They said I was having a premature heartbeat. They said they aren't usually dangerous but wanted to do a holter monitor for 24 hours which I did on Wednsday. I don't have the results yet. But they seem to be getting worse. I have it every couple minutes. I am starting to get worried. Does anyone else have this? Does anyone know if they are more common in people with CF?

Julie,
My husband has dealt with a lot of these issues. He is very very healthy and said PVC's are not usually a big deal. He goes to a forum put out by the Cleveland Clinic. You might get some better answers there. Just google "Cleveland Clinic" and go to ask the doctor. There are a lot of people on the site that could probably answer your questions about the heart a little better than we would be able to.

I get that palpitation, fluttery feeling here and there, but not too often. I have a Mitral Valve Prolapse ( heart murmer) and here and there i notice that fluttery feeling where i need to take a deep breath to settle things (so to speak). I have also heard dehydration can cause palpatations, so i always try to keep well hydrated. I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Hey there,

I had this for a while before transplant and have it now on occasion.

When I had it before transplant there were several things that caused it. I would be doing very little and all of a sudden I would feel like I could breathe. My heart would be racing and I would just start panting for breathe.

The first time it happened I was around 16-17. Come to find out it was an indicator of CFRD for me. I had it off and on for months and being that I was going through the SATs and ACTs and college applications the docs just thought it was stress related until all of the other Diabetes symptoms started to catch up with me.

The second time around I was about 23 and I felt like I was having a heart attack. THe palpitations lasted for about 30 minutes and I ended up in the ER. They ran just about every test they could on me with no real results. The only thing they could find was that my potassium level was low. They gave me a pill for that for a few days and that was that for the time being. I did the 24 hr holter monitor and still nothing. Come to find out - when I went through my transplant evaluation I had pulmonary hypertension which was I think and the docs think a main cause for my heart "issues".

Since transplant I have this occasionally, but I have developed thyroid problems since transplant - NOT transplant related FYI - just a coincidence the timing of it all.

I would definitely follow up with a specialist if it is bothering you. I wish I had when I had the initial problems at 23. Instead I just took their word that everything was fine until I went through with my transplant evaluation.

Good Luck,
Lindsey

Sometimes it just feels like your heart skips a beat too. At least that is how I felt I felt like my heart would beat really fast then just kind of skip or beat out of rhythm - it is kind of scary and unnerving. Sorry you are having to go through this.

Take Care.
