My son keeps getting his intestines clogged.
We've put 16 liters of peglyte through his g-tube and a couple of days later he's clogged up again. We give him 1-3 cups of peg each day as well.
Have any of you had experience with this and have suggestions?
I'm assuming he takes enzymes.... Some people require maintenance doses of miralax, or a daily laxative that's not a stimulant but draws water from the large intestine to move things along. Ds would have issues as a baby and we'd give him milk of mag to clean him out. Friend of mine gives her child mucomyst orally as he has issues with the extra mucus clogging up his digestive system
My dd also has a great deal of trouble with her bowels getting clogged. She has been on daily doses of PEG (1.25 tsp twice a day) for a wile but we still found that she was having problems (she was never hungry and would vomit about once a month). We brought up the concern at the next clinic and they consulted with some other CF specialists and then prescribed domperidone for her. She has not had any trouble since. I would suggest that you bring it up with your clinic and make sure they are aware of the difficulties your son is having despite being on daily maintenance. Maybe they can come up with something else for you to try.
