ok so we have a 4week old baby girl. finaly home from the NICU. we have to give her half a capsule of enzymes before every meal.

every nurse tryed different ways to give them to her to make it easy for us and her...

we tryed mixing them in a little drop of milk, tryed giving them with a spoon, tryed sticking them to a wet pacifier, tryed them in a dropper and a syringe and now we just dump them in her mouth

im afraid to just pour dry pellets in her mouth because she can aspirate on them.

how do you give them? what works for you?

thanks for any help!

We use a small spoonful of applesauce and empty the capsules onto the spoon. Our cf clinic said to use applesauce because it is acidic. Sometimes we try to use different fruits because I think he is getting tired of the applesauce. I hope you find a system that works well for you. good luck

DS hated applesauce -- preferred babyfood bananas which were stickier and held the enzymes better and pears, though they'd sometimes slip off the spoon.

We did use a tongue depressor at first, but a couple times we nicked the roof of DS' mouth, so we tried to find the flattest spoon as possible. Slid the spoon in really fast and out again and then stuck the bottle just as quickly.

Our little guy has taken to a tiny tiny dab of rice cereal mixed with a few drops of breast milk- empty the capsule into the mix and it creates almost a bit of a paste. We spoon feed it to him with a baby spoon and then wash down with a couple of sucks from the bottle after every spoonful. Seems to work well for us.

Our dr. said the tiny amount of rice cereal was just fine to give him.
