Hello All, I will receive the Tobi soon, and I want an idea of how to use it and dilute it. Also, do we continue the Tobi when we are on the iv's?Thanks guys. Rami

Last I checked the TOBI came pre-mixed. At least, it did for me. You don't need to do anything but squeeze the stuff into your mouthpiece hardware, and then hook it up to the nebulizer.

tobi is ready to use right out of the vial. don't dillute it. also you should use a standard nebulizer and not a sidestream type.

Rami,I think you would want to use TOBI in conjunction w/ IV's. I do realize that your IV's may be tobramyacin too, but obviously distributed using a different avenue. You may want to ask your Dr about doing both of them. They suggest you use a PARI nebulizer & the PARI nebulizer cup w/ TOBI and you shouldn't use the same cup for any other meds either. I think you will get a video w/ your first TOBI that explains all of this. One thing it doesn't explain is that it doesn't taste very good at all=( but try to get past that, because it sure did me a lot of good initially.Good luck<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

For all of you who take Tobi - how long does it take for you to nebulize using the PariNeb? It seems like it takes around 45 minutes but my doc says it should take only 15. Also - does it make anyone else here a bit nauseaus while they are taking the Tobi? I'm wondering if it's because my throat hurts so much from doing it.Piper

Hello, Piper. It takes me 30-40 mintues to finish TOBI. I've never heard of it taking fifteen; that's a little hard for me to grasp. I also get a small feeling of nausea, and my throat can be sore sometimes, too. I read somewhere else on this site someone talking about hearing loss coming from TOBI? I've never noticed anything before, but last night a friend said something about being able to hear the carnival down the street, and I could not hear it at all. Usually, I'm the one who has the better hearing. It might be nothing, though.Jarod22 wih CF

I do know Tobi and a few other of the meds we take can cause hearing problems - I encountered these as well. I believe my doc told me that will subside (I think it takes around 6 months) but mention it to your doc to see what they say. I actually had so many side effects from the Pulmozume and Tobi that I had to stay off of them. Now I take them in a different nebulizer - it's not a recommended one so I wouldn't tell anyone else to use it, but I don't have the side effects and they both take only about 10 minutes. Again - I won't even tell you what nebulizer I use since it isn't recommended, but it is the only way I'm able to take these meds. I am probably not get 100% effectiveness from them but I figure maybe a little bit can still get in my lungs.Piper

I was having problems with wheezing after Tobi. My doc was trying to figure out why it just started and he asked me how long Tobi should take. I said about 30min and he was shocked. He said it should only take 15 minutes also. He actually prescribed a new nebulizer for me, but mine is VERY old. I have yet to get the new nebulizer, but I am hoping it really does only take 15 minutes...any recommendations on a nebulizer...my doc prescribed one and it looks really big. As a college student I was hoping for something smaller. I am going to the doc in 2 weeks and thought that maybe if you guys recommended one I could ask my doc about it and see if I can get a smaller one. Thanks! and srry for getting a little off topic...

it should only take 15. i have a new nebuliser pump so it never takes longer. i used to have an old one that never got repairs and it took a while and the stream was very weak. tobi can cause sore throats. id also stop tobi if on iv tobramycin. its just a waste of medicine. i go for colistin nebs while on iv tobra or non at all.
