Hi Everyone, I never really introduced myself, sorry not to good on computer yet. Anyway my name is Joni. I will be 55 years old this December. I have four sons, ages 31,28,16 & 13. I also have a one year old grandson. I have been married for 17 years. I was diagnosed 11 years ago. At that time my cough and the fact that i started coughing up blood, was so much like my sister, that i knew we must have the same problem. That year my sister Linda was also diagnosed, she was 50. She had alot of lung problems throughout her life, including 2 lung surgeries. She coughed up blood from the age of 16. I had more belly problems, 4 surgeries at age 21-24. Did have some lung issues but not to serious yet. My sister Linda died that year from breast cancer, she almost went her entire life not knowing that she had c/f. I have been in the hospital on average about 2 times a year, lately it seems more. Trying hard to stay positive (and when i hear other stories and hear the ages of others i feel selfish) taking care of myself as much as possible, enjoying every day when i'm feeling well and praying daily.......Please let me know about you....Joni

Hi Joni,
I am 41 years old.... was diagnosed at 3 years old because of failure to thrive. I didnt have many lung issues growing up ( which i now realize was a blessing). I was diagnosed with diabetes when i was 15. I had minimal lung problems around the age of 20 and never had any real big lung issues till i developed b.cepacia around the age of 31 - 32 . Things are different now than they were before cepacia, i have hemoptysis problems, i go on iv's more often ( 2 - 3 times a year, these past 2 years) BUT i also take better care of myself than i ever did in my whole life. I am doing the vest regularly which i never did till about 4- 5 years ago. I also walk on the treadmill almost every day, I stay as active as i can and although i am on disability i also have a part time job as a housekeeper. I assume if i had taken better care of myself years ago, i may have been able to avoid some of the problems i have now, but who knows? The here and now, is what counts and i am going to make sure i fight harder than ever. God has gotten me thru many things in my life, and i know he will always be there for me . Its nice to meet you

Hi Stella, You can find out alot of information on this site. I/m learning new things daily.. I think that c/f is almost always progressive, but people are living longer than ever. Taking good care of yourself, having good information and good care is so important. I also have a strong faith in God. I like your last sentence about the sun rising everyday for everyone... Thank you for your well wishes, I wish the same for you and your brother..... Joni

Hi Joni, I just wanted to say hi. My name is Donna, I am 34 and I live in Knoxville Tennessee. i just found out than I have CF in May of this year. It took me by surprise. I have always had lung problems, but mostly GI problems until this past December when my lungs became very involved. I have been in the hospital 5x since then and am on IV's now and still spiking fevers. I am like you I did not start taking care of myself until recently. Well it was nice meeting you and take care.

Joni, welcome to this place full of beautiful people with one thing in common--we are all fighting CF, in one form or another. Be ready, 'cause once you enter, you will find it hard to stay away! I look forward to hearing more from you.
