If not tobramycin, then what?

Hello.

I'm thinking I'm gonna need yet another clean out here in the next few days. Just can't kick this "cold" that moved into my lungs and I don't want to risk precious lung function because I'm being stubborn. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Just curious, I know there are some people on here who either aren't Rx'd IV tobra or cannot tolerate the hearing loss, etc. I'm curious, if you don't do tobra, what does your doc Rx instead?

The reason I ask is cause last time I was on it IV, I was on it over 3 weeks and was getting dizzy, etc. I would prefer we switch things up this time around and maybe do something from the same family as tobra, but not tobra. Any suggestions? I just want to have a med in mind that I can suggest when we're looking at my sensitivities.

Thanks!

I have never NOT had Tobra, but in addition to the tobra I have ad zosyn, merepenem or cefepieme (sp?)

I do know that is the cocktail itself that works for me so if I didnt use Tobra I dont know how well things would work.

You can ask your doctors to check your sensitivities and see what else you can take. I have the balance/dizziness problem too (it lasted about 6 months one time), and have done IV meds other than Tobra; but again, it depends on what your specific bugs are sensitive to. The next time I get IVs, I'm going to see about doing Tobi and the IVs and see if that works well. Good luck!

I have never been on Tobra at all. When I started on IV abx the ones that I remember the most are Zosyn, Ceftazadime (Ceftaz), Fortaz, and Cipro.

You can see a list of the most commonly used IV abx on PWCF at this site....
