impedance PHprobe

I am sure this topic has been talked about many times before.....I could only find it in reference to peds though. I may have to do an impedance PHprobe, do any of you know much about this. I know what a regular Bravo and Phprobe is, I am not familiar with the impedance part of it. Have any of you adults had nissan fundo and had a bad experience or things I should expect or look out for should I need one. Also, I have tried other things first (ie Nexium, eating schedule, elevating head). Would all of you have done those things first for a while before resorting to surgery. I have tried those things for about a year and have had really no heartburn symptoms until recently and also have some continued tightness in my chest, they think it may be related to acid reflux.

My boys boys had an impedance probe last year. Their doctor suspected they had reflux problem (which they don't). It never went any further than the test. It is similar to a PH probe. I can't recall the differance, I think one measures acid, the other measure muscle impulses.

The boys took atavan to relax before the probe was inserted. My older son was very anxious about the test, but he actually did fine with it. It was a quick proceedure, about a minute.

My younger son had a very scary experience when they tried to insert the probe (nurse's fault. The tube goes up your nose and down your throat while you swallow. The nurse asked me to hold his hands tight so he couldn't pull on the tube.

I don't think she had much experience because she went very slowly so he gagged (of course), instead of quickly feeding it in, she stopped and pulled it out. She did this twice and my poor son was hysterical. He couldn't breathe and he couldn't tell us and his hands were held down. It was awful for him. I finally told her JUST SHOVE IT DOWN, which she did on the third try. That took about three seconds.

The tube is connected to a monitor you wear which measures events of reflux over 24 hours. My boys ate and drank very little because they didn't like the sensation, but once it was inserted it wasn't bad at all.

As I said, our results didn't show much activity so we didn't have to proceed with the Nissan.
