Are there any medicare part D plans that seem better than others as far as CF drugs are concerned. There's so D@#$ many listed I think I've looked over at least a million & 10 so far<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">. I just don't want to sign up for one if they are completely useless. For example only paying for generics or limited quanities on certain drugs and "gap" issues. Anyone want to chat on this subject tonight I'm usually logged on at round 1:00am. Any info is welcome<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Hi Kelly,

I posted a lot on this about a year or so ago when Part D began... you may want to search for it.

Just remember not to include TOBI or Pulmozyme in your Part D plan choice. As you may know, most nebulized drugs are covered under Medicare Part B, which means they will not factor in to your Part D drug expenses, they will be covered by Medicare Part B even if you reach the doughnut hole, etc. Therefore, you are looking for a plan to cover your less expensive drugs, for which generics may or may not exist. If I were you, I'd look for a plan that covered all my drugs, and covered most of them in a lower "tier" of copay/coinsurance.

Since you will have a lot of prescriptions, you will probably be better off with a slightly higher monthly premium, but in a plan with copays (you pay a set $ amount per fill) than you would be in a plan with low premiums and coinsurance (you pay a percentage per fill). Copays are far more cost effective for someone with many prescriptions.

You should also consider your experience last year. If you hit the doughnut hole last year, you might want to try to find a plan that provides at least some coverage through the doughnut hole... even if only for generics.

All of this should be reconsidered if you are also on Medicaid (dually eligible). If you receive Medicaid, you are not subjected to the doughnut hole, and pay much reduced (or zero) copays - depending on your state. In effect, it doesn't really matter which plan you pick.

You should also check to see if you are eligible for the "Low Income Subsidy". This gives copay/doughnut hole assistance to people with low incomes, but who aren't Medicaid eligible.

I hope this helps.... good luck.

MyNewfy.....Unsure... Sadly it's not mine though, it's a wallpaper I found on a site one day. I use it as a signature because the original artist's (<b>kaori yuki</b>) uses a style I greatly admire. Looks like graphite scanned in color though don't it.

cdale613.....Thanks for the response, I was wondering about the tobi/pulmo because medicare does cover 80% already. As for the 'doughnut hole' I would be willing to accept generics if it's all I could get. Don't qualify for medicaid but I think I might for low income so that would help. Thanks for the responses<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">
