Ry had hypoglycemia and did this all the time. the best thing is to drink a soda (quick sugar) than have some starches (pasta, bread, etc..long sugar)

Orange Juice works great for me for something quick then I usually try to eat peanut butter crackers or something similar to that (granola bars or something).

This is probably one of the few reasons I would eat chocolate. Once in awhile I get a craving for Hershey kisses otherwise I only eat it to boost my sugars up. It isnt recommended to bounce up/down like that, but when it does happen I do what I have to do.

I have had that a lot, jittery to the point where all of a sudden it hits me and i feel awful and i have to have juice and STUFF my face with food immediately!! haha. i did a lot of blood sugar tests last time i was in the hospital and everything was normal, so maybe this just happens to us?

sometimes i think its all the medicine and vitamins we take...so much in your system, maybe not enough food at times. plus everything is outta whack anyway.

MY GLucose tests come back fine, but if I dont eat/drink something every hour or so my sugars drop. I use to drink apple juice all day long and then switched to water as an effort to keep me hydrated. Well it turns out that the juice is what kept my sugars up because what I ate wasnt enough so I quite the balancing act to figure out.

I get like that whenever I don't eat for a while. Usually a soda is enough to knock that feeling until I eat something better. Back in february I stopped eating for 9 days and got all jittery around day four. I also felt great the whole time for some odd reason. Don't follow my example though...I get wreckless at times.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

And why did you stop eating for 9 days?

I read somewhere that because our pancrease doesn't produce as much insulin as a normal one, it makes up for this by producing a smaller amount but over more time. This usually means that our pancrease is still producing insulin after our peaks, causeing our blood sugars to go down.

I get that a lot...usually only after breakfast though. Try to take in protein with any carbs to balance it out, and try eating low glycemic carbs when possible.

It was wierd, i use to think the jittery feeling was from high sugars, but have since realized it was low. My dad also gets like that, and he does not have cf.

I feel lightheaded too sometimes. It's funny Zithromax was mentioned b/c since I started it its been more frequently but I didn't make the connection.

If I get that feeling I try to eat sugar or protein quickly. Or lay down if I can. I've had the sugar tests too, and they've all come back negative.

I've had blood sugars where I've been on the verge of passing out. Its a scary feeling, and its one of the reasons I have panic attacks. When I'm 2.8 - 2.4 I'm on the verge of passing out.

I have had times kinda like that.

Two significant times-One was definately sugar related. I was driving a golf cart on the farm around dusk. And I must have blacked out or fainted and I slammed into a tree.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0"> I know, I know. But I broke my shoulder! And had a serious concussion.

The second was I was at the mall with my then fiance, we were registering for china. All the sudden I went black, my whole body kinda 'jumped', or shook I guess. Hard to explain.Anyway I dropped the china on the floor and it shattered. It happened a few times after that. Several doctors agreed that that was a panic attack. And I was under alot of stress at that time. But I searched and searched! Before I was told it was panic attacks, I had my heart checked out, my thyroid, all these tests. I thought I was dying b/c why would I have a panic attack whiel I was registering? -Something so happy. But it was panic attacks for sure. Very confusing though.

wow that's pretty low. I start feeling jittery at like 4-4.5. I'm sure I got that low at pass out times before, but never measure it.

Do u think u could have CFRD or other sugar problems even though your test comes back neg?</end quote></div>

I think you could have a sensitivity to glucose, but your tests would come back negative...if after two hours your blood sugar goes down to normal.

It's after two hours or just around that time that's the problem. They usually only worry if it's high, no?

I know that i am glucose intolerant...and that it tends to go a bit high, just not enough for me to need insulin though. But I have been hypoglycemic since high school, and my dad is like that as well. Who knows

Well... I don't have CF (parent) but I get hypoglycemic. Nor do I have diabetes. I have no clue if there was a medical reason for this but, when I was on the pill (birth control), I would literally get hypoglycemic in the middle of the night. Like, I'd wake up completely shaky/jittery and have to eat a pudding, jello, yogurt, etc and a piece of bread before I would settle down and could go back to sleep. I haven't been on the pill in years and now I only get this way if I haven't eaten in a long time. As far as the dizzy/black thing, I still get that all the time but think it's from anemia.

Whether medications have anything to do with sugar problems or not, I don't know, but think maybe it may cause it to happen more frequent. I'm not on any medications, and I get the same thing, sometimes it'll just come from behind, when least expected! I had a practice one day, and just as soon as I got there...WHAM!...my blood sugar went down and I had nothing to pull it up (the sports drink wasn't enough)! It was tough getting through the class, and as soon as I did, I ran to the nearest vending machine for a quick sugar jolt, then off to the nearest convinience store (called "conbini" in Japan) for a sandwich, and more refreshments.
I realized this happened to me since the age of 8 or so, when my mom went shopping, leaving us in this great big camper with nothing but a container of sugar! I ate the sugar straight, and felt better by the time we got home. I guess I was too young then to realize what was wrong...just told my mom I was really hungry!
