I think it's admirable that you are the type of person that wants to help others out & be there for them. My only concern with CFers working in the medical field is that you're exposing yourself to a lot of germs and as you know, we don't have the best immune system in the world.
I also feel the same about teachers. I love children & would love to volunteer at school, I actually did a few years ago. When I got colds 3 months in a row, I decided that the school scene just wasn't for me.
What about an office type job? (attorney, accounting, secretary, etc) That way it's not physically demanding & hopefully you will get your own space, phone, computer, etc so possibly sharing germs w/ others will be minimal?
Hope this helps<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I worked in mental health. I worked with kids and I was in and out of schools and houses. I had them in my car, etc. Although it was a rewarding experience ( I did it for almost 2 years) it eventually drove me nuts. The stress of working 60 hours a week, in a health setting, with kids....ugh. I was ill all the time and had the last straw when I ended up breaking my leg. But anyway, I personally wouldn't advise working in the med. field just because for me it wasn't worth it. Now I'm married and don't HAVE to work, but I choose to (I'd go crazy being home 24/7). So I work at a hair salon, which is stress-free and fun. Well good luck and do what is best for you.
Take care.

I work in the medical field. I am an ultrasound technologist. This job works really well for me. I absolutely love it. I work 32 hours a week.
I picked to go to school for ultrasound because I knew I could be in the medical field and NOT be exposed to sick people. I work in the obstetrical department of a big hospital so I am only exposed to pregnant women (pretty healthy!).

The only time I find it difficult is when I'm not feeling well and I can never just work from home. Fortunately, I work with great people and they are very understanding when I have to miss work--- I am currently in the hospital......

So, if you do choose a job in the medical field please just make sure you are not exposed to a lot of sick people, that would not be smart.
