Hello, all...

I don't want this to turn into a nasty post, but I'm wondering if we could continue putting things that aren't related to CF (the myspace stuff, attack posse, blog stuff, etc.) in the "not cf related" topic? Or, if it has nothing to do with CF, could you put that as the topic summary so we don't click on it if we're in a hurry? (Some of it is obvious, so I dont' usually check it, but with the myspace post and blog stuff, etc... I sometimes think it has to do with CF.)

I often only have a couple secs to look at the new topics posted, and sometimes, I end up checking things that don't have to do with CF, which, had I known that, I would not have taken the time to click and read.

I'm not trying to be crabby here, but I notice that on the "adults" page, there is usually at least 2-3 topics that don't necessarily belong there.

Please don't be angry with me... this is not my intent.... and, if the posts continue on the adults page, I'm not going to "go postal" (no offense to any USPS workers) or anything, but its just a friendly reminder that there is a forum for such things. No biggee.

Thanks, guys.

I know what my problem with the off topic section is... No one ever checks it. If I post something there, I feel like it won't get read. Which isn't entirely off the mark.

If you (and others that are annoyed... justified, btw) can learn to deal with some nonsense in the adult section, then I think the rest of us (the posters of irrelevant crap) can take a minute to be courteous and properly label such a thread.

Does that work?

sounds most excellent to me! i actually have the same problem posting anything in any of the other forums (i.e. exercise, etc.) cause i feel the same way... nothing really gets read as much. so, i agree completely... and, yes, that would be outstanding if you could just put "non-cf" or something by the title.

thanks!

I have zero problem with adding that it isn't CF related in the sub title. Technically, if you want to look into it though, isn't anything revolving around a CF patient being alive "CF related"? Just for discussion sake, what really defines something as "cf related", and what doesn't? Does CF related only apply towards medications, treatments, and SSDI/SS? What about feeling like crap from day to day and venting? How about discussing how you really are enjoying your limited CF life with different activities? I've seen threads on here ranging from hot air balloon rides, to others complaining about their current spouse. On the surface that seems pretty off topic. As for my perspective in general, I feel anything that keeps us talking and feeling like a community, typed by people with CF and those who are involved with people that have CF, would be indeed "on topic". That might just be me though. The whole issue with this topic, is what line to we draw with regards to what is CF related and what isn't? Is it only CF related if the person reading it personally agrees that it is CF related in their own perspective? What if they don't agree with the content, but it is considered somewhat CF related by some others? What about if they don't like the poster and it's relation to CF might be kind of vague?

Anyways, just saying it might be down to perspective. I could post that today I drove a cement truck for the first time, and it was my childhood dream to do so, and I was extremely happy. People would probably say "WTF That isn't CF related". But what if I added something as simple as "And it really made me feel better about my limited life with CF"? See what I mean?

But yeah, if adding something to the secondary title in the topic helps to distinguish what some would consider off topic, I have no prob with that at all. But I might forget from time to time.

Sean-
you make a good point. You remind me so much of my brother who passed away 6 months ago (no cf). He would take a point and intentionally pick another side just for arguments sake....it used to drive me nuts But, I love that you do it....I have never seen anyone quite as crafty as my brother....I believe you would give him a run for his money.

right on.

Thanks for the compliment Mandy. Being this way got me into trouble in school fairly often I try not to split hairs for the sake of splitting hairs, but I think many people sometimes lose themselves within themselves, and forget that many things in life as in being right or wrong, or appropriate or inappropriate, rests solely in the land of each individuals perspective. My mother and I are extremely morbid, and her and I can be sitting at a public meal table and be openly talking about jokes involving the bubonic plague and giggling like french school girls, with people looking at us like we are demons. My mother was raised in a funeral home, with few friends that would come over to spend the night (and understandably so). Her personality was passed onto me, and i'm very grateful to her for it. What some might consider inappropriate conversation, others find it enjoyable and even common (like a table of morticians talking about their jobs, as opposed to people fresh out of church).

It's impossible to be human and be 100% non judgemental and remember that your own personal way/opinion isn't the only proper way to be, but it's a good thing if people can try to be that way atleast 80% of the time. It would mean less wars, less persecushion of those that are different from us, and overall less strife on planet earth.

As an example: There is a pretty rednecky place east of where I am, rife with REAL good 'ol boys and heavy agriculture. I have zero issue with that at all, it takes all types as I say. The Church of Scientology decides to move a fairly large operations center into this area. Well it just so happens that this area in the country is extremely hardcore Christian, and resents them coming there, even though they have every right to do so. I personally think Scientology is laughable and I could pick it apart all day long, but I equally feel the same about all religions. I could go on all day just on religion alone, but hey, if it lets you lead a better, happier life, so be it. Anyways I digress. The part that I found very ironic, and hypocritical is that Christians are against another religion coming into town. Last check, didn't christianity preach tolerance and acceptance? I think it's a combination of that, and like a current Mafia family controlling one section of town, and a different Mafia family moves into town, and they fear losing territory so to speak. I guess it's a bad thing to offer options to others for their after life insurance?

Anyways, I felt that was a great example of people being self absorbed with regards to their values and their belief that they are the only ones that are correct in their path in life. I personally can't stand people who refuse to educate themselves on anything, and want to be spoon fed everything, when they are fully capable of doing it themselves. Especially so after it has been explained to them indepth. These are the people that if we were in the lower animal kingdom (say Zebra's for sake of argument), their stupidity would lead to their demise. Like constantly straying from the herd to drink at a far away puddle with high brush growth surrounding it (prime for predators like lions to hide in). Sadly, we don't have enough sharp objects and other random life threatening items laying around for them to off themself with to keep the gene pool cleaner.
