Kerosene Heaters

Hi everyone,
We're considering purchasing a pellet stove for our home this year to offset the heating costs, but I'm trying to rule out every possible other way to heat our house b/c pellet stoves can be rather expensive when all is said and done.

I grew up in the north, and my husband in the south, so I'm much more familiar and comfortable with Kerosene heaters then he is b/c we used them all the time when I was little. My question is, do you think they are safe to use around our kids which both have CF?

We move every couple years b/c of the miliary, and I know we have at least two more years left here in CT, but I hate to purchase a pellet stove that we're not gonna be around to enjoy in another five years. Any insight or opinions would be great..Thanks!

I grew up in a trailer which was heated by a system Kerosene run.

I DO NOT recommend it. I remember the fumes that would linger for days after having the furnace serviced! How much damage it caused I dont know for sure, but I do remember my chest aching!

In my local paper this morning an elderly couple had their kerosene heater explode. Neither are expected to surive!!!

Many, many people use them, but I would stay away if at all possible!

We used to have one in our lower level growing up and I seem to recall it always had a bit of an odor to it while it was running. I guess I'd be concerned with fumes or residue.

One of the places I used to work was very cold and the owner bought us kerosend heaters. I ended up quitting because I could not breath. Be very careful - I would not do it if it were me.
