Ladies can you tell when you ovulate?

Maybe you have cramps, maybe your temperate rises, maybe you analyze your cervical mucus, maybe you detect ferning in your dried saliva? ...or maybe you use one of those home ovulation test kits.

I'm so excited because after 5 mo. months of not being on the pill I think I've finally figured out the day each month that I ovulate. Next month I will do one of those daily pee tests to see if the date I think is it is it or not. Then in the October well give it a go and try to get pregnant if my health is good.

How can you tell when you ovulate? Do any of you chart so well that you rely on this as your birth control method? I would like to do this as I have no interest in the bc pill ever again.

I can definitely tell each month, only b/c I get very sharp pains in my ovaries for about an hour every month. As soon as it starts I have to take 3 Advil and lay down with the heating pad, b/c I literally can't even stand up straight. Not very good for getting me in the mood when we start trying to conceive!

I use the mucus method, but it took me a few cycles to really get the hang of it. And I use the home ovulation kits. They really are the best. Some people disagree and swear by the tempurature method, checking the cervix method, ect. I'm sure they are great too. I just feel like the home tests are so easy.

Also, I joined mymonthlycycles.com, and that tracks everything for me. Very easy. After a few cycles you start to see the pattern and it alerts you to when you will ovulate, predicited, when your period will be, ect..

Congratulations on trying! So awesome. Oh God I'm so happy for you. SO many new CF mommies. Enjoy trying. Let's keep each other posted on our progress.....<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

the mucus (well, at least mine) gets watery, thin and stretchy as estrogen increases getting ready for ovulation. Some of you have really clear symptoms of fertility. Funny, I taught the mucus method for oh so many years and now mucus is at center stage in my life.

Thanks y'all!

Momtana - sounds like you have pretty normal fertile mucus. Mine unfortunately around ovulation is like jello.

Lauren, I had a lot of mucus like rubber cement .... however I could usually find a little of the stretchy kind within.

Hi Loulou,

I get sharp stabbing pains and also lots of mucus, when i am ovulating.

Although i chart mine, i wouldn't rely on it as a way of birth control as i have had a few frinds that all fell pregnant doing this method.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.
