DS 3.5 has had a baseline cough since birth. Not much at all, maybe 12 times a day, and brief coughing spells at night, say 5 seconds, nothing for 2 minutes, 5 seconds, etc. for about 10 minutes and that's it. Sometimes "tickle" coughs, and as he got older some were more productive. Doctors/we had put it down to acid reflux, "normal" CF cough, etc. Some days it would seem to get worse (maybe 20 or so and some harsher), and then next day maybe only 6ish or so. Anyway, at last appointment when discussing I happened to mention when running it would happen. That got doctor thinking an asthama component and she prescribed steroid, Qvar. Well, we're only 3 days into it, but he's had no coughing spells last three nights and his daily cough is GREATLY reduced. It could take a month to get full benefit and b/c he sometimes doesn't cough at night, still not sure, but I wanted to post:
1) In case others see something similar. If it is helping that's so great b/c it is reducing inflamation; helping us know more if he is truly having an escerbation; and 3) not waking us at night! ;-)
2) If it is an asthama component and we do regular Qvar maintenance, what also should we look for/expect as he gets older?
Thanks!
