This was longer, but my computer ate it. Elizabeths and their contribution to society:

Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to graduate from medical school (M.D.); pioneer in educating women in medicine.

Elizabeth Thompson was a military woman painter, one of the first. She was more intereseted in capturing the truth about war than the myth, and for this reason, her paintings were controversial

Elizabeth Fry reformed prisons back in Quaker times, saving wwomen from starvation and disease.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a poet who used her gift to decry slavery, the mistreatment of Italian immigrants, and the repression of women by men

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a pioneer of the women's suffrage movement, and knew enough about her own rights to insist that the word 'obey' be dropped from her 1840 wedding vows.

Elizabeth Bennet, a character from the novel Pride and Prejudice, went against the societal norms of the time and insisted on waiting for love.

Elizabeth Garrett was the first English woman doctor, and fought to ensure that other women could do the same. Her daughter eventually became a chief surgeon.

Elizabeth I, known as the "Virgin Queen" used her avaliability for marriage as a political pawn in her dealings with other countries. She was known as one of the finest monarchs in England.

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross pioneered a new way of thinking about death and dying, and eventually developed the now-used five stages of grieving

Liz, of CFForums, is always avialiable with excellent, real world advice, and additionally, can stick her fist in her mouth.

Wow - that is a long list of very strong women with the name of Elizabeth. I feel proud and privilaged to be among so many great women with the same name as me! That being said, I think I'm the forefront winner in coolness, because as Allie said, I can stick my fist in my mouth.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Thanks Allie!
