Looking for Tips...

Let me start this by saying I know that a lot of you have so many issues GAINING weight, and I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings or anything with this post, but I am uncomfy in my clothes, sluggish, and I feel horrible about myself.

I have this contant battle, I am actually about 15-20 lbs overweight for my height and build. I would really like to lose 10 of that. I have tried to stay motivated, but any diet groups I join, like online or in person, I drop out of because I can't restrict my calories all that much and other people just do not get that. Every single time I do, I get sick...very sick. So the dr just tells me how great it is to have the extra weight, but that if I'm that upset that I should cut out useless calories (ie: my total and absolute addictions to ice cream, and to Coca-Cola) and exercise more. Sounds soooo easy. Ba ha ha. Anyone dealing with this issue? Any tips on how to stay motivated to lose when everyone is telling you how lucky you are? I've looked some on the board and I'm not finding what I'm looking for, though it may be buried inside the posts. lol

Oh, btw, I am starting out by weaning myself off the Cokes (diet only and not much soda at all), drinking tons more water, eating sugar free pudding at night instead of my ice cream...then I'm still TRYING to increase the exercise. I HATE IT. lol

I know what you are talking about with the calorie thing. Someone did mention the intense hunger that even PS CFers feel on another post not long ago, I think that is what you are referring to? For me hypoglycemia or low blood pressure (dehydration/need for salt intake) are the cause. I guess if we reduce caloric intake even a little we still need to make sure our blood sugar is maintained by eating frequently and consuming salt and enough water to remain hydrated.

Sorry it's so hard but exercising more and eating right can't hurt anyway, regardless of how much you weigh. Foods that stick to your ribs might help, diet cola and pudding are not energy foods. Maybe some vitamin/electrolyte water and Skinny Cow icecream? The hard thing with "diet" foods is that they tend to be nutritionally inferior and with CF you just can't afford to waste calories on foods that don't nourish you.

Thank you, Bonnie! What you said made a lot of sense to me. I am only eating the pudding at night because I crave ice cream. I'm not hungry, I just want ice cream lol. The soda though is going to have to be a definite progress thing, and I will take your words to heart when it comes to planning my meals and what not. Again, thank you so much.

Cindy, I posted something about this a few weeks ago. I think you and I both were chatting last night about our big butts Anyway, I got some really good advice...though, I have not dropped any weight! People suggested that I get rid of the empty calories and replace them with things like: trail mix, fruits, dried fruits, nuts. I have a terrible craving to munch munch through the day. I am so use to being able to snack all I want. With snacks like that, you are getting fewer calories but enough calories and a lot of really good vitamins and fats. The main jist of the post was to search out valuable calories instead of the empty crap that most of us usually eat. I think you may be surprised at the difference just cutting coke out might be for you. I'll be your diet buddy if you want We can check in with each other
