manual CPT

hey all...

so, I have a vest and think it's ok. I do prefer manual CPT but of course it's not always an option. I especially like being "beaten" on the back when I'm sick as opposed to just using my vest for longer, more frequent, times. My mom used to do it growing up, as I didn't even have a vest then. My mom cant do it well now anymore though b/c of arthritis in her hands. My fiance can, however, hates doing it. Don't get me wrong, here, he's supportive in every other way and totally gets my CF. He just hates doing CPT on me. He'll smack my back for about a minute and stop and complain that his hands/arms are tired. That's understandable, I guess, but my mom used to do it 15 mins at a time 2x a day when I was little...it can't be THAT tiring, right? I don't really know what to say about it, other than that it bothers me that he won't do it. Does anyone have this problem with friends/family members? Anyone have any suggestions as to either how talk to him about it or make his arms not get so tired?

The more practice he gets, the less it will hurt. Like anything else, you have to train your muscles for exercise.

We always did CPT on our boys until my husband got arthritis and it was too much for me to do it all. Try having him do 15m 2x a day to start and build up.

Its great you have such a supportive fiance!

Of course he needs to build his arms up. Have you ever felt the arms of a therapist that does CPT on CFers day in & day out.

Their forearms are pure muscle. That doesnt happen over night.

If he cant handle doing CPT on your as hard as you want then he can practice on his thigh to assure he has the right clap. Doing it on his thigh will let HIM know if he has it right or not.

I dont have my husband do it on regular basis for a few reasons, but the main one is that my vest works fine for maintenance. I dont want our relationship to become caregiver/patient before its needed.

That is ME tho.....

I still do 20 minutes of CPT on DS at least once a day. We started off when he was a a baby doing 30-90 seconds on each position and can remember my arms getting tired, constantly looking at the clock to see when I could stop, but we kept at it because that's what we needed to do for ds.

Today he has the vest, but I do CPT on him for the morning treatment. There are times when it isn't comfortable, but that's usually when we're in a different locale/setting and my arms are at an odd position. Otherwise, it's no biggy. I usually watch the news in the morning while DS sleeps and I do cpt on him.
