Zoey,
I'm sure you'll get some responses here, but possibly you would get more responses from parents if you also posted your question in the "Families" category.
I did not have this surgery as a baby, sorry I can't be of more help.

I had that surgery when I was 2 days old. What information are you looking for? Or are you just looking to see how many others have had it?

I had the surgery when I was barely 24 hours old. It is the first indication that a child has CF....I would get the doctors to begin the treat Zoey as having CF (if they are not already) and not wait until they have a confirm sweat test. They began to treat me from day one, I was "offically" diagnosised with CF at 3 months. I believe for me, that beginning treatment from day one made a difference.

We know for sure she has cf. I was trying to find out did they
leave your bowels on the outside for a while? Thats what they have
done to her and its messing with her digestive system. Shes been in
the hospital for 6 weeks   they said they will partially
put her bowels together in 2 weeks. 6 weeks after that they will
fully put them back in.

My bowels were fine after they worked. I started functioning normally again fairly quickly, to my understanding. And I don't believe I ever had any of them outside of me for any longer than it took to remove the blockage.

DS had his surgery when he was about 24-30 hours old. He didn't require an ostomy bag or anything like that. He pooped after about three days and we were oh so happy. Then he developed an infection, so what should have been a 2 week hospital stay ended up being a 6 week one 'cuz he needed IV antibiotics. But we used the time to learn how to do CPT and give DS his enzymes. He's been doing GREAT ever since.

My son, Danny, was born with meconium ileus and had surgery at 5 days old. They did place an ileostomy and he had a very hard time gaining weight. He pooped so much out of his ostomy that they didn't know what to do. We would empty his ostomy bag with a 60 cc syringe and we would get about 90 cc every time. Gross, I know, but you probably know what I'm talking about. He ended up being in the hospital for 7 weeks and about 1 month later went back to have his ostomy taken down. After that he was hospitalized about 10 days. He had much better absorption after the take down and gained weight pretty well. Just curious why they don't put them back in all they way the first time? I know how hard and frustarting it can be. Any more question for me, just ask!

I had an ileostomy performed when I was an infant. I also had about 2 1/2 feet of small intestine removed. Things were "rerouted" such that part of my intestine was outside my body through the stoma while the rest healed inside. The ileostomy was reversed after a few weeks and I was good as new.

As a result of these surgeries I have two scars. One that runs horizontally across my belly, and the other is just a little puckered circle that looks like a belly button.

I hope all goes well for your little one. Best wishes and warmest regards.

My brother had a severe blockage that ruptured his colon. By the time he was 24 hours old he had been in three hospitals and had about 14 hours of surgery. He had a colostomy for over a year.
