microscopic pneumonia?

My two year old has been really sick all week with high fevers and a horrible sore throat. The Pedi took a strep test, negative and told me it was just a virus. Aidan continued to get worse. One CF doc them saw him and said it looked like Epstein Barr. We are still awaiting results. The other CF doc said it looks to be more of a bacterial infection caused by microplasmic bacteria? Aidan is on Zithromax for 5 days and said we should see dramatic improvement.

After two days on it, he is already doing much better. His lung X-rays were fine and there was no crackilng? Has anyone had experience with this before? Thanks
Megan

I'm still dealing with an infection I didn't even know I had! I had no crackles/wheezing/productive cough, just mild shortness of breath and pleuresy. A small spot showed up on my chest x-ray. After a week of Tobi I'm only now getting some sputum up.

i think your doc meant mycoplasma. specifically maybe Mycoplasma pneumoniae perhaps, which is a common bacterial cause of pneumonia. I'm glad your doc is looking out for you guys and that the your son is doing better.
