Migraines

Hello, everyone. I've been having a lot of migranes lately. Has anyone ever had any migraines because of CF or because of a side effect from medication? It's not really important; I'm just wondering. Jarod22 with CF

Jarod,I did have a few migraines in the middle of the night a year or so ago. I'm not sure what caused them, but they were so severe that I threw up because the pain was just unbearable. ?Now I take ibuprofen as soon as I feel a headache coming on! Luckily I haven't had these migraines lately (knock on wood). Is your feeling that your's started as a side effect of a medication?

No, I don't really think they are a side effect, i was just curious. I don't think anyone knows what causes migranes in the first place. At least, that is what I last heard, but that was a long time ago, so maybe they've figured it out by now. Jarod

i used to have migraines every day for about a year or more. Never figured it could be a medication side effect since my mom and brother ( both non cf) suffer from migraines. Then my doctor took me off of the antibiotic "Bactrim" (which i had been on for about a year or so) and the headaches went away. I have been back on bactrim here and there , and that same terrible headache comes back every time, so now we know thats the culprit. I also found out i am allergic to aspartame/ nutrasweet , and get the same awful migraines when i eat anything with that in it. I avoid the aspartame/ nutrasweet at all costs, but if i need the bactrim for my lung infections i will take it and deal with the headaches for the two weeks . ~Diane 39 cf / diabetes / b.cepacia

Hi Jarod! I am a mother that lost her son to CF on Feb. 3, 2004. He was 27 years old. He also had terrible migrane headaches. When the oxygen and CO2 levels would be high and/or low, he would get them. His got so bad he had to take oxycotin and oxycodone in order to get relief.

I get mirganes for two different reasons. One being its heridetary and I'm stuck with it. The other is when my sinuses flare up and get full, the mucus has no where to go but to stay there so the pressure in my sinuses makes me have a migrane. If my migranes persist for a long time, like off and one for a month solid I call my doc and we go get a CAT scan and find out if its my sinuses, both times we did this it was my sinuses and a sinus surgery did the trick. Also my sinus migranes come when my allergies have been bothering me alot and I have the sniffles or I don't get enough sleep because of allergy problems. Didn't have a mirgrane for a long time after my sinus surgery. But my other migranes come and go as they please, doesn't matter if i have the sniffles, or if i have had enough sleep (if i am sleep deprived i get them more often), they just hit me for no reason, thats how i tell the difference between a sinus migrane and the other. Maybe ask your doc if there is something he can prescribe for your migranes and he might even check out something else just to be sure nothing else is going on. If you read the sheets they give with the medications it tells the side affects and lots of them can actually cause headaches for some people. Amanda

To the mom that lost her son in February, how sad.I lost my sister, also at age 27. She was so ready to go, tired of suffering. I miss her terribly, but know it's selfish of me to want her here suffering when she's doing great & is finally healed in Heaven. Please know that you're in my thoughts & prayers & that time really does heal. God Bless
