Well, think of it this way. Exercise has many benefits to your health. It'll make your lungs stronger. It'll make you live longer - CF or not. CFers probably benefit even more from it than the average Joe. Do you enjoy life? Do you want to enjoy it as long as you can? Then exercise, prove to yourself you have a true will to succeed and live as long as you can.

Don't get me wrong i love life and i live it up every day, except
when i have to work all the dang time lol...... It just seems like
i wake up go to work, then school for electronics, and then sleep
and i love my sleep and i am no way a morning person which i figure
most cf people are not so to get myself to wake up and excer. is
hard....i must say some of the stories i have read on here are very
positive.

I think we can lighten up here a bit, guys. While the
prospect of ending up on a ventilator and inevitable death do make
for good motivation, I get the impression that there are a bit less
drastic ways to achieve compliance...
Okay, Larry, I'm just about in the same boat. I motivate
myself by doing a few things. First off, sweating in general
is good for you, as you probably know. Gets all the
impurities out of your body. Therefore, when I'm feeling like
crap, I jump on the treadmill. Not only is that good
exercise, but it gives me a bit of extra energy, which I find worth
the effort. Or, I'll jump in the pool and do a few laps.
Helps to cool me down after working out, and its probably one
of the best exercises for you. I usually do both once a day
if I can. While I'm doing it, I hook up my iPod and rock out.
I find music is a good distraction, and if I listen to
something with a great beat, it helps to get me moving with a bit
more energy. I also just recently moved in to a second story
apartment, so carrying things up and down the steps is a workout in
itself. LOL.
I don't know if you exercise at home or go to a gym, but I do it at
home so sometimes I'll pop in a movie while I'm doing my sit-ups
and such. Also a great distraction from the fact that you're
working out.
In general, though, my motivation comes from the fact that I don't
want to feel lethargic (because that seriously takes a toll on my
lung function and stamina), and I want to look good for my fiance.
That's basically it. Don't know if I helped with all
this rambling, but either way, good luck!

I have a treadmill at my house but I'm not much for swimming, maybe
when i feel a bit more energetic... You are right music is a great
motivator and if my ipod wouldn't have been stolen i would use it.
I like how you use your fiance to motivate yourself, it seems
very realistic and enough that it could work. Do u know any
23 year old females looking to settle down?? j/k Thanks
for your suggestions and hopefully i will start tom. after i paint
the garage door....long story..lol
I also just wanted to say im glad i found this site and thanks
everyone!

I agree with Amy, beware of fumes. But hey, look at the
bright side. I don't know where you live exactly, but I know
its scorching hot nearly everywhere so consider painting the garage
a mini workout! Just make sure to keep yourself hydrated!
