Moving Out

Recently, my boyfriend of 5 years and I have been looking into
getting an apartment for ourselves.  This will be my first
time away from home.  I don't work, but receive SSI ('bout
$400 a month).  The apartment complex we're looking at is
about 1/8 of a mile from my house (I could walk if I had to).
 Its a pretty cozy one-bedroom, perfect for just the two of
us.<br>
<br>
Rick doesn't make a whole lot of money, but together we'll have
enough to cover the major things with just a bit left over, and my
parents are willing to help (they actually orchestrated this whole
thing).  I'm not changing my address, for the sake of not
wanting to complicate the whole SSI deal.  I know something
changes when I turn 21, but I'm not exactly sure what that
is...<br>
<br>
At any rate, not a whole lot is going to change.  If I need to
do IV's, I'd probably come back home for the duration (because
that's where all my meds will be sent, etc.).  Rick is going
to be working full time and going to school in the evenings.<br>
<br>
Alright, now that you're up to speed as to the arrangements, my
question to everyone is do you have any tips or such on moving out
on your own?  Is there anything I need to know/do to make
things easier?  Anything I should prepare for?  I figured
that you guys might know something that I don't, so I thought it
wouldn't hurt to ask.<br>
<br>
Thanks for any input!

Hi Lisa

Moving out on your own is so exciting. I remember going away to college and wanting not to forget to pack everything I needed. When I got my own place away from college that was a gradual thing. Everything falls into place. It is like going away on vacation but you end up staying there lol

Tips on moving out. I guess get a notebook and write down important things like note what box contains what. Put your medicine in one place so you know where it is and you do not have to go looking through x number of boxes. Keep a notebook of moving companies, phone, electric landlord all together. Just being organized really helps and the best tip of all is to Enjoy it all.

Thanks, Risa and Katy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">  Luckily I won't be moving far from
home, so if I forget anything I can just walk over and get it.
LOL.<br>
<br>
Janet, to answer your question, do you remember the scene
where Norrington and Jack are having an argument on the pier with
Elizabeth?  Jack runs out of things to say and just resorts
to, "You smell funny!" XD  I love Captain Jack...
 I've seen that movie three times so I can probably tell you
everything about it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"><br>
<br>
Just to add to my question, though...is there anything specifically
CF that I should be concerned with as far as the move?  I
can't seem to think of anything that would be different from living
at home, but you guys know a lot more than I do ^_^

Make sure the carpets are cleaned and tell them not to use anything with chemicals. There are natural ways to clean carpets. If you have tile that would be great.

Have them check the air handling unit and to see if you need to have the air ducts cleaned.

Have someone check for mold.

Thanks for the checklist, Risa.  I'll make sure to run through
this with the landlord.  The only tile in the place is the
kitchen and the bathroom, so I'll make sure they do the carpet.

my tips for moving out. DO NOT LET YOUR LANDLORD SCREW YOU OVER! in each house ive had the landlord from hell. you really need to know how to protect yourself otherwise they will make your life hell. one of my tips regarding this is never rely on a condition report list to save you from having them steal your money. you need photos, and lots of them! take a photo of every single wall, every single detail. list things even if they are meaningless.
