Mucomyst (and sinus questions)

I'm wondering how many people still use mucomyst. I am really thinking about asking my doctor to let me try it. I remember getting a lot better results with it than I do with pulmozyme now. In addition, mucomyst is a heck of a lot cheaper. I did have bronchospasm issues with mucomyst, though I still have some with pulmozyme, but it seems like the combo of intal and albuterol with the mucomyst help this. As I already take albuterol, it seems like it could just be combined. I'm relatively healthy so stopping pulmozyme would not be immediately detrimental (if at all) to my health. Thoughts? Ideas?

I do remember mucomyst being very slow to take. I can't seem to find out the best nebulizer/compressor combination to use with it, particularly one that will speed up delivery. Has anyone seen any information related to this?

Unrelated but I don't want to make too many posts and clutter the board. I am having atypical sinus issues. I typically have some pretty funky sinus drainage but it occurs over the course to the day. Lately I have had horrible congestion all day, much worse than I am used to. However, I am doing the equivalent of sinus cpt at three points during the day as a result of the drainage because it is clogging my nose and causing postnasal drainage. I am talking major nose blowing for 10-15 minutes to clear everything at each time. I get the normal gross/funky stuff out in the early am when I wake up, at night, and then in the middle of the night. I would guess that I am producing 1/4 cup of the gross stuff compared to 1/8 a cup normal. The consistency is thicker but no change in color. In fact, the rest of the day I still have drainage but it's clear (it's usually not). I am slightly concerned because I am also coughing this up (it is definitely not sputum) which means it's either getting close to my lungs or it is already there. It's also impacting my sleep. Also I am usually able to tell when I am sick but I can't tell with this. It's been going on for about 20 days now. I thought it was allergies at first, then I thought I had just a cold, then I thought it was menstrual-related, and now I am not sure. I have had no change in sputum, breathing, not even asthma issues which I always have with a sinus infection. I am on allergy medicine and inhaled nasal steroids. I also do a sinus rinse twice a day with hypertonic saline. If it's allergies, there's nothing the doctor can do. It can't be a cold because it's lasted too long, right?

I can't help you with the first one (sorry!) but the second one, I can offer a tiny bit maybe- just to say that my dh, daughter and I have had something very similar, and my dh has had it for at least 3 weeks and finaly started on the upswing last week. Ugh.

But, you may have developed a new allergy that your current med doesn't cover, or you may want to check for hidden areas of mold, or something growing outside (if your weather has been as whacky as ours, that is- spring flowers blooming in the fall and winter! Crazy!). Have you brought anything new in the house (especially in the bedroom), or scents or perfumes? Looking in to stuff like that may help. Getting retested for allergies may be an option too. Good luck!

Hopefully it is just what everyone else has. As for allergies, I thought that was the culprit originally but nothing new and it has been cold for once so most things have stopped growing. Plus I am allergic to everything already (literally, there are very few things on the allergy skin test I am not allergic to). I've allergy-proofed my home -- hardwood floors, no curtains, nothing in the bedroom, not pets, hepa filter on the heating system, hepa air purifiers in every room except bathrooms, newish building, allergy covers on anything that can be covered, stopped using chemical cleaning products, mask when cleaning. I also have this grossness everywhere so if it is a new allergy it's everywhere. Thanks for your help!
