my complicated kids

It will be three weeks tomorrow that Josh has been in the hospital. He is improving a little every day, but is still having fevers. Yesterday it dawned on me that two years ago during a clean out, he got fevers from "drug overload". The oral bactrim he had been taking gave him fevers when he started the IV meds. As soon as he went off it, they stopped. I brought this up to the docs yesterday so they took him off the bactrim yesterday. So far so good. Wouldn't it be nice if it was an easy fix (at least for the short term).

Jesse has finished his clean out and should be coming home this weekend. That will be great for him, but really hard on Josh, who has to stay behind. Hopefully something will break for him soon.

Thanks for all your kind words during the last few weeks.

Thanks for the update, Jane.
Yes, it would be wonderful if the fever goes away when bactrim is stopped. And you know it just might. Like you, I sure have seen that happen.

Anway just wanted you to know that I keeping you, Josh, and Jesse close in my heart.
I really appreciate that you take the time to update. You are so so busy, I would never expect you to or anything. But for those of us up here thinking of you and all, it is comforting to be kept in the loop.

Anway just wanted you to know that I keeping you, Josh, and Jesse close in my heart. Just wish there was more I could do.

Thanks Laura,
No Jesse is still here too. Poor kid. He got a fever w/ a rash on the 12th day of Zosyn (Thursday). Josh had the same thing happen a few years ago. They stopped it and he hasn't had a fever since, but the rash is really bad. They've got him on ice packs, benedryl and hydrocortisone cream. Now they're saying Tuesday for both.

In general they are both feeling better. My husband brought up their tennis rackets and the spent the afternoon outside whacking balls against the wall. A nice normal activity for a change. Its about time.

Thanks for the update, Jane.

I'm glad they're feeling somewhat better. Nice idea of your husbands - sorry I missed seeing that tennis practice.

Take care...

I hope Tuesday it is......that was great that they got out & whacked a few balls. It probably helped with some of the anxiety in addition to just needing the air!

no one in particular, Jane...I was in 10 East and was treated very well back in the fall of '03. My sister had been there just before me too. One of the nurses - Kathy O -- is now on the clinic floor. She was definitely my favorite. =)

He's not a CF doc, but if you ever cross paths with Dr. Fred Mandell ( http://www.boston.com/yourlife...ctions/?p1=MEWell_Pos5 ), tell him Gwen Murphy's mom (who hasn't seen him in 25 years) says "hi" and that she really was moved by his book.
He won't remember me, but he is one of the good ones so should get all of the positive feedback possible.
