My distant French cousin with CF wants to come visit me

Hi, all. I always have some sort of CF issue for the forums. Well, let me start from the beginning.

I have a 13 year old distant cousin (not sure the relation...just very distant) with CF who lives in France and doesn't speak a word of English. My mom however knows her mom and they have spent time together abroad with her family.

Recently she emailed me to sort out some CF related issues she was having. Her older brother, who I have met, translated the emails and we had some great dialogue about CF and how I've managed dealing with it. I feel good providing her with this mentorship and wish I had had the same at her age.

Now she's emailing me and says she really wants to visit California....well then she asks if i know anyone she can stay with....wants my mom's phone #. naturally i feel like i should offer to put her up and meet her and spend time with me. But I honestly haven't hung out with any CFers since I was a kid and the cross contamination issue was not yet known.

I have PA but no other serious strains of bacteria. I don't know what to do without creating an incredibly awkward situation. I really want to meet her and show her the healthy and happy life that I lead....but I also don't want to put either of us in a dangerous situation.

I know some of you CFers hang out with each other. How do you do it?

Thanks!

I do it because... I don't care. Hahahaha. As long as neither of us has like... cepacia, I just do it. I told a friend if he visited this side of the country this summer, I'd let him crash on my couch. *shrug* As long as we don't share nebs or anything insane, I just don't care.

i'm a bit more cautious than em. multi-drug resistant bacteria can make life hell and one never knows what is lurking in someone's lungs (sputum cultures are never 100% accurate) so i wouldn't chance it in a million years.

If you both do have "normal" pseudomonas, it should not be a big problem: Just avoid kissing, drinking from the same glass and such. If there is a possibility to use separate bathrooms, that would be the best.
Another option: maybe she can stay with your parents and meet you for activities?

Uli,45, Germany

The pic shows me in Israel, where I stayed with other pseudomonas-positive CFers at the Dead Sea for a medical cure.
