I have recently been diagnosed with Mycobacterium Simiae. I cultured it 3 times, and now they have found a 5cm hollow cyst in my right lobe. I was recently hospitalized and given a course of IV's and some oral antibiotics, for multiple infections, including the mycobacterium. They took a biopsy of the cyst to see why it is there and sent it to UT Tyler, where the world's expert on mycobacterium is. Still haven't gotten back anything definitive. Has anyone else had this infection? I had MAC before, and they said this one is harder to get rid of. Guess I am just wandering what long term treatment will look like. My Pulmonologist and Infectious Disease Dr.'s both say this is rare. Any one with experience to share would be most appreciated!
