hey guys,

since being on IV's 2 weeks ago I have felt something was off, now I am feeling poorly again, my PFT's for past 2 months have shown HUGE variability. Now I am coughing up blood on sunday then streaks of old throughout week and more fresh today for about 2 hours. We have sent of a myco culture and a regular culture to check for cepacia mrsa etc. My x-rays look clear so I just have a 'feeling' it is a new bug causing problems.

I am going to drive myself batty wondering about culture for myco and sicne it takes 42 days I am wondering how did you feel when you developed something new? Normally if I felt this crappy I would do lots HTS pulmozyme etc but with the bleeding I am major gunshy on all of it though I am doing my vest right now.

I am a bit worried my culture result today from tuesday was not a final culture when normally it would have been and it said gram negative rods but nothing more, in past it came back clearly stating PA so now I am wondering is it because there is more than PA and they are trying to sort it out. Ahh, the wondering.

thanks

Hi Nicole,
I am sorry you are playing the waiting game right now. That is so hard.

I'm glad you are holding the hypertonic right now. My son has been bleeding lately and that is what we were told to do. He has now gone three days with no blood in his sputum. Hopefully that will help you, too!

Keep us posted!

Hi Nicole,
I think waiting is the worst when it comes to these issues. You know somethings not right and you want to know right away and start treating it asap. I felt the same way when i first got cepacia. It was very unmistakable to me that something wasnt right. I was previously very healthy with only an occasional cough. Then i started to have a more constant cough, and running low grade fevers. In the past i rarely ever had a fever unless i was really sick. I started to get crappy in the lungs and my Dr. would put me on an antibiotic ( orally) and it would work for about a week maybe two, but then the nagging cough would come right back and the junky feeling would follow right behind. I started to feel so lethargic that taking a shower was a major task that i simply didnt have the energy to do. This tiredness lasted for weeks and no matter how much sleep i got it was always there. When i started to run low grade fevers every day right around the same time of day for months at a time i knew something was wrong, but the Dr.s hadnt found it yet. Finally they saw it in my sputum culture and started antibiotic treatment right away. I finally started to slowly feel better . I was scared at first because i had never even heard of cepacia, but was relieved to know what it was, that was causing all the symptoms. I hope you find out soon whats going on with you and i hope it turns out to be just an exaserbation. Feel better soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
