Thought i'ld post this here, kind of a wierd questio but here goes. My husband no CF has pneumonia. I listened to his lungs and he sounds like an albuterol neb would help him. Would my daughter's compressor(my 3 year has CF) get comtaminated if my husband did a neb treatment with her neb compressor. I have disposable neb sets I'ld use(cheapo ones I keep in case I get lazy and don't want to wash my daughter neb set).

We are being so careful about trying to protect my daughter with Cf frm picking up whatever bacteria my husband has from being sick. I wouldn't want to comtaminate her equipment. i even did manual CPT on my husband last night. He's on antibiotics, but still sounds crappy.
TIA

Rebecca,

probably not the best idea since you don't know what type of infection your husband has, do you have a new neb set? Maybe let him use the old one and break open a new one for maggie.

I don't think there's much of a risk, so long as you are using all new/different neb equipment for your daughter then your husband. That goes for the tubing as well.

I don't see a problem with this as long as you use a seperate nebulizer and tubing - same compressor okay.

Years ago I got pneumonia -- this was before I knew anything about CF, before DS was born and a couple of times I'd cough and stuff would get caught in my chest and I'd wack myself there to dislodge it. Thinking back -- wish I'd known about CPT --- would've had someone give me a good beating. Think it took me over a month to get all that gunk out -- I'd cough more at night. Liza

What was the suggestion for getting rid of wheezing????? I'm a curious mind and would love to know!
I hate wheezing!

Hi Rebecca, I would definitely put all the neb equipment in a pot of boiling water to sterilize it after your husband uses it. having CF, she could be more easily succeptible to whatever your husband has. Often if my husband gets a cold, and while I might try and not get it, it's so easy to pick up bugs from others that's it's not really worth it if you can help it.

When DS had a wheeze when he was about 8 months old -- no other symptoms, local doctor said he sounded clear -- his CF doc in the city said to increase cpt -- beat that wheeze out of him.

Thanks for all your replies.. I did do some CPT on my hubby last night. I think I'll not use Maggie's compressor, like one poster said even the idea she could catch a bug from him freaks me out. I guess if he's still sounding junky tonight I'll see if his doc could order an inhaler(his own personal one)

My husband is actually at work. He keeps telling me "he feels Fine" but his cough and left lower lung sound crappy to me. How long does it take to get over a pneumonia in general? He's never had a fever or even felt that yucky.. just tired. He's a very healthy guy overall, works out alot runs. I think he's overdoing it. He says he's going to go lift weights after work if he feels ok. He's been wearing masks at home when Maggie's awake so she won't catch whatever he's got.
