Need Help....QUICK!!!

Hi....38 yr old female with CF. My brother is soon going to be on the lung transplant list but first the transplant doc said that he had to get ALL his dental work done first. Well the disability plan that he's on (got it through work) doesn't have dental coverage. He lives in B. C. and I was wondering if anyone, could give me/him some kind of direction as to where he can go to get his dental work covered for FREE...if at all possible. He can't get his transplant until ALL his dental work is done...How dumb is that! I know why but come on...
So any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not much help at all because I'm from Manitoba, but have you thought of checking out the dental departments at the universities? A lot of them offer free services because it is students working. I'm not sure if this is something you want to do, but it is an option non the less.

I hope the listing for your brother can come soon.
I know when I was listed, no one paid attention to my teeth. Not sure why they require you to have ALL dental work done pre tx..... it is not like you cannot go to dentist post tx. Since my lung tx 8 years ago, I have had 4 caps placed and one of them was pretty tricky. Just took my amoxicilan and on my way.

Yes, lizard queen is right. Universitys, community colleges have dental programs that they charge minimal for.

I have no dental insurance either, so out of pocket is the rule of thumb, and sometimes I have to wait on something until I can pay the price.

Where will your brother get listed?

If you can raise some money from family and friends they can donate to the National Transplant assistance fund and he can have a fund in his name. CAll them 800 642 8399 he can get registered there and he can pursue fund raising so he can pay for his dental work. I am sure if he has to have some root canals that would be very important before a transplant. Any cavities could be an issue if they are not filled. Any caps for cosmetic issues can always be done after the transplant. Many centers want to see a letter from a dentist to see if gums are healthy.

Before my son was on the transplant list here in Toronto, it was recommended by the Drs. that he see a dentist but this did not stop him from being listed. He only waited 4 weeks for his call so did not get the chance to make any appointments with a dentist.
