So my latest culture showed steno something or other-I did a search for it on here and read the posts associated with it. I also cultured staph but I always culture that.

Since I am not symptomatic right now they are not going to treat it right now-does that sound right? My lung function was 95% (highest ever!) last week.

I am kind of nervous because when I read the other posts it doesn't sound good. I asked about what the abx would be next time I got sick-because previously he was going to put me on inhaled Tobi (because it is a good staph drug I guess-and I have exhausted (or am allergic to) the oral abx.

In my culture it looked like the staph was sensitive to levaquin (intermediate sensitive she said??) and the steno was sensitive to doxycyclene (or the other way around). The last time I had a culture the staph was resistant to the Levaquin-which is why I stopped it. So-I don't really know if next time I have a flare up what I will be put on-guess I will wait and find out.

In the meantime-I am being super super vigilant on my airway clearance routine and taking my vitamins and washing hands to try and prevent an infection. Ugh-I hate the unknown though. I like having a med I can take when I am sick and it gets me well-for years after I was diagnosed at 21, I took Keflex for 2 weeks and each time it got rid of my infection. No more, I guess!

Hi Marci,

I also wrote you back on my post. But, my doctor told me the same thing, that he wasn't going to treat my steno until I had a flare up with it. I forget the name of the drug he said he would put me on though. I also have pseudo and I have fun out of oral antibiotic options for that. So my doctor wants me to go through allergy testing and desensitization if needed. I'm allergic to Cipro and Levaquin, which are usually used to treat the pseudo. But luckily I'm not allergic to the one used for steno, so that is good!

Hopefully our steno will just sit there and play nice! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

DS local cf doctor wasn't going to treat it; however, his doc in the City put him on septra. What surprised me was that it was resistant to ceftaz (sp), something he'd never, ever been on before.

DS did have some symptoms prior to getting the culture results. Sort of a dry, throat clearing cough. Not sure if it was related or not, but it when away with the abx.
