New hope raised in battle against drug-resistant bacteria

This is very good news, I hope it sees results in human trials. Even if this study directly doesn't, it will help as a stepping stone to others. While a genetic "cure" for CF would be great, I feel the most pressing matter in CF research is how to stop the bacteria that degrade the lungs.

It's estimated that 60-70,000 worldwide have CF.

I'm going to guess they worded it that way on purpose, because whether people think it's right or wrong, many people seem to hold the belief that the more people affected by something terrible, the more tragic. Now if you think of it this way, how many lives does CF affect, it could very well affect that many, given family and friends of each CFer.

Since CF appears in 1 in 2500 live births, and there are 6 billion people on the planet, that means that 2.5 million could potentially have CF. Okay, so I know that it mainly effects white people, but even so 60-70000 seems a bit low to me...

Yes, my maths may be a bit suspect...

I realise the way we read it, it's wrong, but like that other person said, it sounds like they worded it like that on purpose, saying "affects" not "are afflicted with" just my thuoght on it.

Thank you for posting the article Amy, I enjoyed it.
