We have the comp air elite. We originally bought it two years ago when we were planning a trip to Disney World. It's a compressor type, not ultrasonic so can be used for all the same meds that you use the non-portable home ones for. In my opinion, it takes a little longer to do a treatment than our other systems (pari pro-neb ultra and pulmo-aide). Part of the problem, I think is that my children don't breathe deeply enough to draw the meds out more quickly and since we don't have the mask, only the mouthpiece, it takes longer. It's also only marginally quieter than our pari pro-neb. I've heard the ultrasonics are really quiet! Unfortunately, some meds can't be used in the ultrasonics. Also, the mouthpiece is really tiny and finicky. It's kind of a pain for my children (4 & 5) but probably wouldn't be a problem for you. Last thing is that we've had problems with our rechargeable battery. It doesn't hold the charge very well. I am considering replacing the battery and it's not even 2 yrs old. But, that said, I am still really glad we have it! We don't use it everyday but we use it anytime we're travelling or away from home. I love to use it in the car because it's so lightweight the kids can hold it themselves & do a treatment in their car seats. (with the car adapter cord). In hotel rooms or other people's houses, we use it with the detachable cord so the only time we've ever needed the battery pack is when we're somewhere like Disney World, the park, etc. It's a little heavier with the battery pack but is still really lightweight. IT comes with a travel case that is only a little larger than a camera bag and holds both cords, the battery pack, compressor, and an extra neb cup (one for each child) plus meds although it's a tight fit, it does all fit! Last thing though, is you are only suppose to use it for no more than 20 min out of every hour. That can be a pain if you're trying to do multiple meds or if we're doing meds on both kids. I think it burns the motor up quicker if you do, although we have "cheated" and used it for up to 40 min a couple of times with no ill effects. IMO, if you're just wanting it for occasional use, travel, etc, it's a good buy, but I don't think I'd want to use it as my main neb system. HTH.

I do ventolin about 4 times a day, do you think this would be ok for it... thats all i do....Does it actually "shoot" the med in when you breathe in and only when you breathe in, so that there is not much waste???Thanks Julie

I'm sorry but I don't think I can really answer that question since only my children have used it BUT I don't think there's any less waste than with the regular neb. It uses the same system as the home compressors - compressed air that makes a little cone shaped thing spin & convert the med to an aerosol. Just my opinion, but if you're only using ventolin, I'd look at an ultrasonic. They're quieter, only marginally more expensive, smaller, quicker, and from what I understand DO waste less meds because they break it down finer. Check out the Omron MicroAir, that's the one I'd love to have!! Only thing I don't know since we don't have an ultrasonic & I've never asked is if you can use things like tobi, pulmozyme, etc in them. Maybe ask your clinic??
