pancreatitus or liver disease?

I went to the ER a month back b/c of abdominal pain. They did just about every test and couldn't figure it out. The next day my doctor calls me and explains that 99% likely I have pancreatitus. My liver enzymes were up a little and they would retest my blood at my next appointment

Yesterday I went to my 1month clinic check up. They retested my blood and found that my liver enzymes were still elevated. Well over the phone so told me I would be taking a new pill for that (tear*) and she said "liver disease" wtf? Do I have both? She is set to call back and I will ask more questions. I was just curious if anyone had one/both of these, or even some elevated liver enzymes or something. Should I be worried, my mom sounded worried? HELP ME

Hey,
I am on urso because I have an elevated liver enzyme count. I hadn't had pain or anythnig though..my doctors just felt that my liver and pancreas were enlargeed during a checkup so he sent me for an ultrasound. My liver is partially damaged but they pill ( urso) is supposed to get the enzyme count down and prevent any furthur damage i think.

Sorry I wasn't much help but i am in the same boat and I really don't know how serious this is...different doctors and people have different opinions and I am pretty confused too.

My peds cf specialist ( who i dont see anymore <img src="i/expressions/brokenheart.gif" border="0"> ) said that liver problems are quite common in cfers and usually don't lead to liver failure or anything scaryyy like that, however, it can in some cases. He suggested I continue taking the pills and be very careful,( not to drink or any of that craziness) and said to get my enzyme levels checked every two weeks.

i hope everything works out

Have you had your gallbladder out? The pains you experienced sounded familar and I believe -but I don't know for sure - that the increased liver enzymes can be caused by a malfunctioning gallbladder. You can read about my gallbladder experience and see a pic of the nasty thing in my blog.

Hi there,

I thought the same thing as Lauren when I first read your post. Have you had any test done to check your gallbladder? Have you looked up symptoms of gallstones or gallbladder attacks to see if you have any of those symptoms?

I had bloodwork come back showing elevated liver enzymes and that was what tipped the docs off to there being a problem. They suggested that I may have Hep C (which I knew I didn't), Liver failure or gallstones. They were leaning towards liver failure though. I refused to accept that and came home and checked out symtpoms and things related to gallstones and gallbladder attacks. I knew as soon as I looked at the symtpoms that I had gallstones. It took me months of pursuing it individually with different docs to get the situation resolved. NONE of my docs wanted to believe I had gallstones.

It may not be the problem but I would definitely check it out. ALSO to add - I had ultrasounds and CT Scans done to check my gallbladder and those tests came back normal. It wasn't until I had a HIDA scan done that a problem was identified with my gallbladder. Just wanted to put that out there because if you do get tested for gallbladder problems and the first test comes back normal - you may want to pursue further testing especially if you are having symtpoms that correlate to gallstones or gallbladder attacks.

I don't know anything about liver disease or pancreatitis really, but I do know that liver disease was mentioned by my endo and pancreatitus was mentioned by my pulmo when I was having gallbladder issues. Again I am bot saying that IS the problem, but it is worth getting it check out.

Happy Holidays,
Lindsey

Also my liver enzymes were elevated to about 3-4 times the norm when they first came back abnormal. They slowly lowered, but still remained elevated until I had my gallbladder taken out - about a month after my gallbladder was removed my liver enzymes were back to normal.
