parotid gland swelling

hey all...

So, for the last week I've had a low grade fever (99.7-100.8). I called my doc and he put me on a Z-pack (for 6 days) and cipro in addition to the bactrim I've been on for a while. Well, I haven't really noticed a big difference except for (TMI warning) diahrrea from the cipro. About a day ago I noticed my outer ear hurting...right where my jaw meets my ear lobe. It hurts to the touch and is hard and swollen. I can't lay on that side of my face and it hurts when I smile and yawn. I googled it and am pretty sure it's not an ear infection. It sounds like I've got swelling of the parotid gland. The causes all range from diabetes to falling off your bike when you were 8 once (I'm exaggerating, obviously lol). I was just wondering if anyone's experienced this kind of pain while on cipro or during a possible exacerbation or anything?

thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have that same problem several times a year, but the doctors haven't been able to link it to anything. They did all sorts of tests, but everything came up negative. I wasn't on any antibiotics most of the time I had the problem and they kind of figured it was viral since they couldn't find another reason.

It's miserable, I know. I hope that you feel better soon.
