I was told yesterday that they can give me a PEG button instead of having the tube hanging out??? Anyone know about this? They said they CAN do the mickey right off the bat BUT they don't like to maake more incisions and move things when they don't HAVE to.

Also how to you do the vest with the button -and how long after surgery???

I don't know anything about a PEG button, but our doctors also did not want to go right to the MicKey button for the same reason.

Emily was able to do her vest the next day! We had called HillRom the week prior to her surgery and they send us a foam pad to put over the tube so it wouldn't rub. Also, another member here was kind enough to send us a vest taht they had modified when their son got his tube. She had very little pain, and we were able to resume vesting right away!

I've never heard of a peg button, but it might be the bard. The Bard button is a one-step proceedure. It is placed during surgery and used right away during healing. The mickey is placed after the hole is healed while the peg is in place.

We chose the Bard for this reason and its low profile. The mickey is easier to replace later though.
