This isn't CF related but you guys all understnad this stuff so.....

My boyfriend's grandmother passed away on Monday (she had a few strokes and has not been doing well for a few years, then last week stopped eating and drinking, I guess she just had enough). The service is on Saturday, so I was trying to find someone to take my shift at work so that I can go. I called 4 different stores in my company and no one would help (notice I didn't say no one COULD help). Finally I got one store to completely rearange their schedule for that day so that my store could be covered.

Its just really frustrating, its not like I WANT to go to a funeral! Every time I need a day off, which is rare and always for a good reason, no one will help me out. But I'm the first person they call when they need something! I've had it with doing favors for people who don't pay them back. That may sound immature but these aren't my friends, they're my co-workers, and I don't do something for nothing at work.

Tell me about it! A few years ago my grandmother passed away from a long battle with cancer. We knew she was going downhill fast and I was desperate to go see her one last time. I was waitressing at the time and I asked and called everyone and no one would cover me. I ended paying some guy $50 to cover my shift, in addition to his hourly rate and tips. It pissed me off that I had to pay someone!

Sorry you are having such a hard time...have you tried going to your manager? I believe that you have some rights here in that you should be able to take time off to grieve (sp??) Regardless, you coworkers suck and I am sorry!

It is true but there is all ways some loophole. For example I was let go from my last couple off jobs because. They were conserned for my health. Or didn't feel I was healthy enough to be around all the germs. Home health or hospitals. Haven't been able to work in 4 yrs. I just have a bunch of things wrong w/me. First job major gyn/gi problems. Second missed because of bronc and phnemonia(Sp?) in hospital. Third having baby come back after. I could only guess the crap they would give me if I was a cf'er

2 cf babies I have a bit of everything but.

My boyfriend could probably relate. Last summer I got seriously sick. My boyfriend had tried to get someone to take over for him so he could stay with me at the hospital. No one would help him out, his manager kept assigning him days after promising them off and co workers (even those he took over for) refused when he asked them to cover for him. One co-worker, he had covered for when his father was dying. He quit that job after I had been in for four days. Now he has a more flexible job. Work has him away a lot, but when it involves me they give him time off.
