Possible Allergic Reaction????

Well this is not really a cf related question but I am hoping someone might be able to help me. My 2 1/2 year old son (with cf) has broken out in a terrible red rash around his mouth and chin the last two times he has visited my mothers house. He has been going over there since he was born so this is not a new place for him. We cannot figure out what could be causing this....have been racking our brains. The only thing we know that she did the last two times was cook Salmon. Could the rash be from just smelling the salmon frying because he did not eat any of it? It is just so weird because the rash is like around the corners of his mouth and goes in like an upside down triangular shape down his chin. That is the only spot on his whole body. It was just beginning to clear up after a few days when I took him back over there last night only for the rash to flare back up again. Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Did he eat anything over there? If so, even if it's something he normally eats fine, I'd check the labels to make sure there weren't ingredients in that particular brand that he's not use to. The most common food allergens are: shellfish, peanuts, treenuts, milk, egg, soy, etc. Also, do they have furry pets he could have kissed? Another thought is, does he have any outdoor enviro allergies such as tree, ragweed, etc? Certain foods can cause cross reactions in people with hayfever. My 6 yr old daughter is anaphylactic to cashews (you'd know if it was a severe allergy, trust me), allergic to peanuts and has enviro allergies to dogs, dustmites, many different trees, many different molds, ragweed, several other weeds, a few grasses, and is only not allergic to cats because she took shots for 4 years and that allergy is resolved. Anyway, cantaloupe and melons cross react with ragweed. Sometimes, when dd is not having many allergy symptoms (like winter), she has NO problem eating cantaloupe. However, when her body is already overloaded from allergens, like in the spring or fall, or when her asthma is out of control, she will break out in a rash around her mouth after eating melons and cantaloupes. (Very similiar to what you're describing). It took us a couple years to figure out what it was since sometimes she'd eat melons fine, but usually not. One last thought is, it could be contact dermatitis. Does she have eczema? Dd also has eczema and certain detergents, fabric softeners, lotions, etc cause her to break out in different areas of her body. Again, it seems most likely to happen when her body's on allergen overload. HTH. Also, dd does NOT have cf.

It sounds like the rash covers the area that you'd touch if you were giving him a face cleaning with a washrag. At my house, we can't bleach our white towels in the laundry because we all seem to get a bit of reaction from whatever is left on the towels.
