Post-Transplant Tattoos...?

One more question for you post-transplant people here. I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo when this is all over to remember this rather catastrophic event in my life. However, I know after transplant, you're immuno-compromised for six months to a year. My question therefore is, is it safe to get a tattoo after tx and how long after tx should I wait?

You're always immuno-comrpomised after transplant. I mean you take anti-rejection pills.. and their purpose is to suppress your immune system indefinitely so your body doesn't view your lungs as a new foreign entity in your body.

That being said I got my navel pierced about a year after transplant which is supposedly worse than a tattoo since skin heals more quickly than something making a hole into your body. Is it safe? I'm sure the docs would prefer that you didn't take any unnecessary risks however more than one person has been tattooed post-tx (freak I believe on here has a back tat after tx). Common sense I believe rules here; take care of it after you get it. I'd also personally wait a year post-tx before getting it since I believe rejection is more common within the first year.. and being tattooed on top of that probably wouldn't be the greatest thing ever. But that's just me.

I got my full back piece done for my first year anniversary, the piece itself was roughly 11 hours which I broke up into 2 hour sittings until completed...

I am starting my next piece in the next couple of months which is going to go completely down one side mostly on the ribs... Immoratalgoddezz already stated common sense is the key!

If you want to know anything more specific then ask away..
