Pregnancy and antidepressants

Are any of you mommies on antidepresants? Are they safe to use while pregnant. I was put on them years ago because I was depressed and haven't tried to get off of them yet. They have also helped me gain and keep up my weight. So I still benefit from them. So I was wondering if you feel they are safe or not?

hey khristina,

from what i understand, doctors want you to cut back or go off antidepressants while pregnant. of course you have to weigh the risks of staying on with the risks of going off. in your situation, you might want to talk to your doctor about cutting back? i don't know too much about this, but i do know that there are some risks for the fetus--i know respiratory issues are one concern. i also think it varries with what medicine is in question. if i were you, i would do a lot of research on this so that you can make an informed decision. also, keep in mind, there will be unknowns with this type of thing... good luck!

There are woman that stay on them. I am sure they would have you cut back to what is reasonably safe for you. They probably would have you take some folic acid which I took to prevent side affects of my seizure meds. Talk to your doctor......
