Primetime Thursday - Hospitals

Did anyone else see Prime Time last night on TV? It was about hospitals and how patients get staff & other infections in Hospitals. (mostly transfered by dr.'s & nurses) Over 100,000 deaths by unrelated infections. I found it very informative about the risks we all take when we have to go to the hospital. Of course some hospitals are worse than others. Afterwards I told my husband that the next time I have to go to the hospital - & there will be a next time, I want him to be at the door with a giant bottle of Purell, a can of air sanitizer, & gloves and masks for everyone who comes in!!!! I hope I am not being overly paranoid, but I personally know someone who died this way. We CF'rs seem to be in & out of hospitals more than most & have to be more careful, so I hope a lot of you saw the program. Let me know what you think!MARY55W/CF

Hi Mary, i cant agree with you more. I went in the hospital very healthy for a simple sinus surgery , hadnt been in a hospital in over 10 years before that, and came home with b.cepacia. Had i only known to be more careful and wash my hands all the time i touched something. and after seeing that they dont even bother to clean the shower after a patient leaves, i now know why i came home with much worse than i ever expected. ~ Diane

Hello,You are not being paranoid, the hospital i used to go to had signs (sorta like the isoltaion one) made up for CF patients that said they had to wash and stuff before coming in and if the had even the slightest sign of anything wrong with them they have to mask and glove.

When I go to the hospital, all staff is required to wash their hands before and after they see me. Some must wear gloves and I must wear a mask when I walk around. I'm surprised your hospital doesn't do that. You can always request it.Debbie
