I don't want that title to scare anyone!

I don't know if this is pregnancy related or gastrointestinal, which would make sense too b/c of the cf.

Yesterday I had terrible constipation, a common complaint I understand. Around 9:00 pm it started to worsen and kinda built up to a very painful sensation in my right lower abdomen. I went home and went to bed after taking 3 Colace (stool softener), which my GI doc says to do when I'm constipated.

I kept waking up in the middle of the night with sharp pain in the same lower right side, after turning to lay on another side, or coughing, getting up from the bed to go to the bathroom, or any sudden movement.

Of course, I'm worried. At times last night, the pain was pretty intense. I woke up today to look in What to Expect when You're Expecting, and also read the March of Dimes website and WebMD. My symptoms match exactly Round Ligament Pain. The ligaments that support the growing uterus. And its usually on the right side as well.

I've had no fever. No vomitting, no diahrrea, no vaginal bleeding or spotting at all. From everything I've read, miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy would manifest in bleeding first, then several hours later-cramping. (I know anything is still possible, but I'm trying to think positive here.)

Anybody have this, or something like it? Or maybe you're Aunt Sally had it? Any tips are appreciated. I'm going to page my OB now.

Thanks.

The only thing I can say for sure is that my "normal" constipation pains are in the lower left. When it has gotten bad enough to cause vomiting the pain moved to my upper left right under my ribs. I hope you get relief!

Lower right could be appendix....have you ever had yours removed? It may be worth a mention to your doctor.
By the way, congrats!!!!! I haven't been on for a day or 2 and didn't get a chance to congratulate you yet on your pregnancy!!

I don't have CF, but I have been through three pregnancies.
Being pregnant comes with all sorts of weird pains and
aches, and some can be quite alarming!!! For me, round
ligament pain didn't start until my uterus was really stretching
out of the pelvis (maybe week 12 or 13); but there are still lots
of normal explanations for your pain. I hope you and your
doctor can figure it out, and that all is well.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! If you enjoy this
board, you may want to check out some of the Due Date Clubs on some
of the baby sites. They won't understand much about your CF,
but they will be a great source for what seems like
"normal" pregnancy things. My own experiences on
such boards were so wonderful, and it was what prompted me to come
here when my dd was diagnosed. I don't want to make this an
advertisement for them, but if you want more direction, send me a
PM and I'll be happy to share.
If you're not bleeding and it is not period like cramps, I'd say investigate your intenstines and appendix. I did have some cramping and round ligament pain early on with my pregnancy, but I can't recall it being on a specific side. Keep us posted!

After ALL afternoon in the ER.......

What a sucky day. They did a vaginal (internal) ultrasound (ouch), and an external ultrasound of my abdomen and specifically appendix. The appendix was normal with no internal bleeding found in the abdominal cavity. All major organs checked out fine, so I don't have to worry about anything exploding in my sleep.

They checked my ovaries and fallopian tubes for an ectopic pregnancy and that seemed like the strongest (and least wanted) possibility. They saw the normal corpus luteum cyst on my right ovary (I guess that's normal for pregnancy, it secretes hormones) and they think they saw an embryo sac. But "normal" pregnancy nor ectopic pregnancy has been confirmed. The doc was leaning towards this being a normal but very early pregnancy, and that's why they couldn't confirm if that was the actual embryo. He doesn't think its ectopic, but I guess they have to rule out everything possible obgyn related. Not the news I wanted to hear, but not the end of the world either. They'll retest me and my HCG levels in a few days. If the HCG levels go up normally, then its a normal pregnancy. If they're low I guess that indicates-a bad thing. I just have to get through the next few days and wait and try to be optimistic.

The pain is alot better than earlier.

Dr. Walker and Dr. Berdella called (my cf docs) and they strongly suspect this is bowel issues, possibly even a beginning blockage. They said its strong too that if it was GI it would be on the right side in pregnancy.

Tonight I'm packing the prune juice!!!
