ya they weren't cleaning the intubating devices properly. newborn babies tend to be suseptable to PA.... it happens when people aren't careful. shouldn't be too surprising to anyone...

Geeezzz, not surprising but disgusting.

I MADE them use all new equiptment on our babies, fresh out of the package. Some of the nurses thougth I was a nutso..... I could care less. I do the same with Mark. He had a sleep study once and I mad them get all new tubing out for him. Even though it doesn't "touch" the patient, I told them I didnt' care and bill my insurance whatever extra craziness they needed to to cover the cost. It was new or nothing and I'd make a stink if it was nothing..... needless to say we got all new tubing AND the guy was cleaning the machine like I've never seen things cleaned before.

I never like the idea of using anything that was used on someone else....... Now i dont remember where i read this , but, i did read somewhere that a patient having surgery that was intubated could get b.cepacia from it. I wish i could remember where i saw that, but i never forgot it . Makes me wonder if thats how i got b.cepacia when i had my sinus surgery 10 years ago . I KNOW i got it somewhere , somehow in that hospital .
