I know pulmonary embolisms can be fatal. All I have learned is that he is on blood thinners. Is this common in CF patients?

I have not heard that it's common for clots to move to our lungs, but have often wondered if us taking extra vitamin K ever puts us at greater risk of clotting?

Blood thinners is a good thing if he has a clot in his lung. You may suggest that your friend keep his INR, or protime (a blood test done often when on blood thinners) at the low end of normal so blood doesn't get too thin.
