PULMONARY EMBOLIZATIONS

How does one develop a PE? Is it because of a really bad lung infection that could lead to a PE?

Excuse my ignorance re: this subject matter, but I really don't understand the orgin of it.

Usually a PE results from a blood clot elsewhere in the body (usually the legs) that dislodges and travels to the lung. This is a similar scenario to a stroke.

Are you talking about a pulmonary embolism.......or pulmonary embolization?
~ An embolism is like what Mary said a blood clot that travels to the lung
~ an embolization is a procedure you have done when you have ongoing hemoptysis problems.

I did not know there was a difference, but now that you have pointed it out. I was basically wondering how one gets a blood clot in your lungs. I did know that it can travel from your lower legs to your lungs. I didn't know if pe's were common in CFers?

I believe patients are treated on blood thinners, correct me if I am wrong.
