question about CFRD

I went to the orthopedic surgeon today about my trapped ulna nerve, also I now have a trapped nerve at the top of my hip that is causing severe numbness in my thigh.

Thing is he suggested that I be tested for diabetes, apparently this can be common in diabetics, poor nerves, do any of you show any of these symptoms with your diabetes.

Obviously this is praying on my mind now, due to my doctor not dx me because of lack of symptoms, two identicle genes RH117, if you all can remember about my situation.

I am not aware of anything like that but that does not mean it can not happen. I was diagnosed with CFRD in May of 2005 but I have had no problems other than some weight loss.

Hope you find some answers, hang in there! Make sure your diabetes doctor is familiar with CF because CFRD is a whole different beast than regular diabetes.

I have CFRD and was diagnosed 7 yrs ago. I have not had any problems like what you are describing. I know it is nerve racking to think of, but I would try to not get to anxious over it. The first thing I though when I read your post was ... several of my friends ad their relatives have dealt with ulna nerve problems and none of them are diabetic.

Hope everything works out and your numbness/pain gets taken care of and you start feeling better.

edited to add: I am not saying it can not happen. I am sure it is a possibility that ulna nerve problems can be caused by diabetes. I just haven't dealt with it and the people I know with nerve issues don't have diabetes. That was all I meant - not that it isn't possible.

I've had diabetes 26 years now and i havent experienced that either. I do have ever so slight numbness in my big toes ( for example, if i dip them in hot water i get like a one second delayed reaction) No big deal, but i do know nerve problems can be caused by diabetes. Especially untreated / uncontrolled diabetes.

Thanks all I dont think myself that this is caused by diabetes but you never know. I dont think that it is just linked to the ulna nerve, its just like that happens to be the first nerve that has been affected in me for whatever reason.

I t could just be my sporting youth catching up on me wear and tear on my poor body, any physical sport was my kinda sport, Rugby union was my forte, soccer and some martial arts, tae ki do and kick boxing

I go to my own doctor in 10 days for the test she may have an insight
