Hypothetically, if one got a new job with a different health insurance company would you think they would cover a new VEST? We already have a Hill rom but an Afflovest would be a back-up/travel etc type thing. Thoughts?
thinking out loud here: I'm thinking it depends in part on how old the old vest is and whether the old insurance treats it as "yours." I think many have it "rented" for 5 years and then after that it is "yours." So if you went to a new company that at that point if your doctor scripted you for a new one, that it would be covered and you wouldn't have to return the old vest to the old insurance company. (Maybe folks who have switched insurance within the time period can say if they just have you keep the vest and the new insurance covers it or the new insurance gets you a new vest entirely. I'd think that the "rental" company just starts billing the "new" insurance, so it would depend on when it allows for replacement of medical equipments...I know we were able to keep DS's "old" vest after five years entitled us to upgrade, even though the "old" one was only 6 months old because it kept wearing out and he got replacements.
My daughter's Vest, we own. We've had a Hill rom for 10 years. Obviously, not the same machine, Hill rom is wonderful for customer service, we've had to replace he machine etc, covered under warrantee.
I was just thinking because as my daughter gets older it gets harder to lug that VEST around(though I will always do that for her)...I know the Afflovest is more portable; perhaps could be her"travel" vest. I have been lugging her vest to school every day so she can do a treatment before softball...I've been having shoulder issues and just had this thought this morning.
We do use the flutter(when she is well) for these sorts of things. She's been coughing though and the VEST is better for her for that type of thing.
Hey Rebjane,
Do you know if she's had the same "model" for 5 years or more? Our son likely went through 10 in 5 years, but all the same model covered under warranty, and then when he hit the "5 years," the insurance covered a new upgraded model, based on our policy, but was able to keep the old model. I'm wondering if you could even try to get a new model now before switching insurers and then have both, if she's had the same model for 5 years???
Huh, I just posted but I don't know where it went. Originally we had the 104; about 6 years ago they upgraded us to the 105...We had to send the 104 back to them...
Depends on the insurance. Some insurers will let you upgrade within the company only and others you can go to another company. Mine let me change companies after 5 years...went from Hill-Rom to the SmartVest...Check whether Afflovest will be covered as an Airway Clearance device code...since I do not think they are considered an HFCWO or high frequency Chest Wall Occilation Device...I work in healthcare...and may not be billable on all policies. Some will not cover for vest therapy and a cough assist at the same time for example. Check it carefully.
