Question

Okay, I'm having a hard time understanding something......Do all CFers have small airway disease or show signs of it at some point?

Briceton's CT/bronch from a couple weeks ago showed small airway disease and I was just wondering if this was pretty common in CFers.

Thanks in advance!

Edited to say: Maybe this question is a little more silly than I originally thought. The more I think about it, I guess small airway disease would pretty much always show at some point, I dunno!

DS has had a couple of CT scans because his doctor felt that was the best way to determine if the small airways were affected. His last was a radioactive medicine scan (inhaled radioactive isotope). His last scan was clear, so I don't know how common it is for younger patients, just know that's what his doctor was doing the scan for...

Sherry,

Yes, at some point all of us have decline in small airways too. If you track the PFT's, FEF 25-75 you will see it there.

I have narrowing of the small airways if that is what you are referring to. My doc told me it could be caused by asthma or mucus accumulation, and that it is not life threatening. Someone on the forum improved hers by exercising, and that's my plan now too. At this point I still do not have bronchiectasis so I am otherwise doing fantastic.
