RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis)

How many CFers have arthritis? What do they classify it as: Osteo or Rheumatoid? Also, if you have Rheumatoid, do you have swelling associated with it?

I have bone pain in my fingers, and throbing arthritis occasionally in my knees (dependant on activity), major lower back pain, stiffness (all the way up my spine to my neck), and occasionally pain in my elbow.
They don't want to classify it as Rheumatoid, because there is no swelling. They don't want to classify it as Osteo, because I'm too young, especially to have it in my fingers. I also have pain to the touch, on my butt, (sacroiliac) which is associated with Ankylosing Spondylitis, yet, xray don't show signs of that either. What the hell kind of arthritis do I have?

Thanks for any input. I'm hoping someone out there has the same symptoms and knows what's going on.

I don't know- just wanted to offer some sympathy. My best friend (no cf) is going through something similar right now, and seeing the drs...(along with the "you're too young for...stuff). <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

i donno how it works w/ cf,,,,, but my hubby who is 35 was dx with RA over a year ago had ALOT of symptoms prior to his dx. He would wake up unable to turn his head w/ severe neck pain......thinking he slept wrong....then would have days with his knees and feet hurting and thought it was from wrecks he had on the motorcycle when he was younger...he was ran over by a truck....so he thought alot of the pains and bad days were from getting older. he went like that for over a year before he had any swelling. but then his hands started getting red and swelling to almost double along with one of his ankles.....sometimes having flu like symptoms too. he FINALLY went to the dr. and they blew it off to poss. high bp. even though his bp was fine in the office, they thought maybe it only happened certain times. i got on mayo clinic site and used the symptoms checker. it came up with RA. so we went back and i asked the dr. to do the bloodwork for RA he thought i was crazy. when it came back his levels were out of sight. and they were all shocked. i learned that RA doesn't act like osteo. it affects ur entire immune system, not just ur joints....like i said flu like symptoms. the damage done is in ur joints though. so i would ask for the bloodwork. there is a test for RA. i dont remember what it is called. and the bad thing is the test does have a history of false positives....but if u do have it....the levels are extremely high. i know they told my hubby if he would've had osteo w/ RA it would have been better........slowing the process down. But w/ meds they can keep it from getting worse or slow it down.....but no cure for it. but, i hope this helps....good luck.

It could also be fibromyalgia or lack of Kalium.
I noticed that the pain in my knees gets better sometimes with antibiotics...

Ever looked into fibromyalgia? My doctors have always associated my joint pain with arthritis but I am starting to wonder. A friend of mine has fibromyalgia and she was telling me about it then I started doing research on my own and my symptoms fit. Sounds like some of yours do too, especially the back pain. Look it up on webmd.com to see what other symptoms you might have. I am going to see my doctor about it soon to see if I can get a real diagnosis of what I have, not just guesses.
